Suspected dengue fever outbreak in Dhosoom

Suspected outbreak of dengue fever was reported in Dhosoom, Trashi Yangtse. 24 patients were admitted in Trashi Yangtse hospital while two were referred to Monggar Regional Referral Hospital. This is the first time a suspected dengue outbreak has occurred in the Dzongkhag.

According to health officials, most cases had fever, joint pain, headache, body pain and rashes but all cases had no travel history to India or southern places. The investigation started on 26th July after the Dzongkhag health received the information.

The Dzongkhag health team headed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) investigated the outbreak and based on clinical presentation and laboratory test conducted in the field, the team suspected that Dengue and Chikungunya virus caused the outbreak. However, it is yet to be confirmed by the Royal Center for Disease Control (RCDC). Samples were sent to RCDC.

The District Rapid Response Team led by the CMO is also conducting sensitization and awareness on the disease outbreak to the general public and conducting active case surveillance in Dhosoom and nearby locality.
