Road woes abound in Chhengri_Dungmanma chiwog of Trashigang

The people of Chhengri_Dungmanma Chiwog of Lumang Gewog, Trashigang are complaining about the poor condition of the road to their chiwog.

The 27-kilometre road, built some eight years ago, is rough but stays open during dry season.

It is in summer that the road starts giving major problems. It is not uncommon for the chiwog to remain cut off from the rest of the country during monsoon.

“We have no choice but to use this road since there are no alternative routes,” Kinzang Dorji from Bemri of Lumang Gewog said.

“Our vehicles suffer damage. It would help a little if a base course is laid.”

“In summer, we face a lot of problems along the farm road. There is a cliff called Hori. There the road is steep and it’s difficult for small cars to pass through. We also have a river in between over which we need a bridge,” Tshogpa Cheki Dorji said.

Lumang Gup Wangdi said the gewog administration could afford to carry out only temporary maintenance works. They plan to lay base course within the first year of the current plan.

“Apart from Lumang gewog, the farm road also benefits those from Nanong Gewog in Pema Gatshel. Despite this, we have not been able to maintain it properly. The maintenance work involves a huge budget and it is not within the means of the gewog administration alone,” Lumang Gup Wangdi said.

During the chiwog’s common forum, candidates of both the parties also pledged to lay the base course and construct a proper drainage system along the farm road.

They also promised to connect it to Pema Gatshel dzongkhag via Nanong gewog.
