Tsirang district hospital yet to move to new hospital

New hospital

More than two months after its inauguration, the new 40-bedded hospital of Tsirang is not yet fully ready. Project manager Karma said final and minor rectification works are still ongoing.

During the inauguration, officials had assured the district hospital will move to the new building in a week or two’s time.

A committee of officials from the health ministry and dzongkhag is now expected to hand over the new hospital on October 15.

“If we move to the new hospital before it is fully completed, it will be inconvenient for the patients. We will start moving in from October 16,” Tshering Phuntsho, the Officiating Administration Officer of the hospital, said.

Meanwhile, at the old hospital, with the shortage of beds, some patients can be seen sleeping on the floor.

“The new hospital is spacious and has better facilities. We hope it would be ready soon,” Ratu Namgay, a resident, said.

“Both male and female patients share the same ward in the old hospital. But in the new one, there are separate wards, which would be nice,” Norbu Chezom, another resident, said.

The hospital will not only cater to the people from 12 Gewogs in Tsirang but also those from Dagana.

It was constructed at a cost of Nu 218 M with funds from the government of India.
