BKP launches its manifesto

Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party has prioritized 13 flagship agendas, which covers agriculture, tourism, healthcare and digitizing the governance system among others.

The party launched its manifesto titled “For A Self Reliant Bhutan: Our Concern, Our Responsibility” in Thimphu today.

BKP’s Vice President Sonam Tobgay, who is also the party’s spokesperson, said BKP wants to create a self-reliant and caring Bhutan by providing equal opportunities and through good governance.

“Self-reliance can come if all of us express concern and responsibility,” he added.

BKP says its main priority will be to provide 100 per cent functional irrigation.

The other priorities of the party are to address human-wildlife conflict, provide an adequate market for farm produce, access to drinking water and making all roads pothole free.

We pledge to solve unemployment issues, develop the private sector, revise the salary and allowances of the civil servants, and provide affordable homes for all,” Sonam Tobgay said.

BKP also promises to enhance rural life insurance benefits to Nu 50,000, stop the purchase of new duty vehicles for ministers and withdraw the 5 per cent sales tax on mobile vouchers.

The party says it will also reduce the prime minister’s pay and make it equal to that of the cabinet ministers.

In the health sector, BKP pledges to give Nu 5,000 for the birth of every second child. The party also wants to build at least one helipad in each gewog.

BKP’s manifesto has fifteen chapters of pledges.
