Decentralization of power remains main priority of PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as in 2013, kicked off its election campaign from Kabji_Talo constituency in Punakha today. 

Introducing the party’s manifesto, the PDP President said the plan is to take their achievements during the 11th Five Year Plan as a foundation for the implementation of its pledges in the current Plan.

“In continuation to the previous Five Year Plan, our hope is to achieve more development in the 12th Plan. Of all, we want to achieve decentralization of power by strengthening the Local Government,” Tshering Tobgay, PDP’s President, said.

“We want to give them more power, facilities and support than before. We want to empower and improve the livelihoods of our people, especially those from a socio-economically disadvantaged background. That is our party’s top priority.”

The party’s president said, if elected, PDP will increase the Gewog Development Grant (GDG) from Nu 2 M to 5 M.

The party will also initiate a major project worth Nu 20 M in every Gewog.

Tshering Tobgay also mentioned increasing the salary of civil servants and superannuation age limit.

On the health front, he promised of more health professionals and a bolero pick-up truck in every Basic Health Unit (BHU) for patient use. PDP, if it comes to power, will make the national referral hospital to a multi-speciality hospital.

The party president also highlighted the PDP’s achievement as the ruling and opposition during the last two parliaments.
