Building self-reliant Bhutan by instilling sense of ownership in citizens high on agenda for BKP

As Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP) marked the official commencement of the campaign period, the party said it will focus on building a self-reliant country by instilling a sense of ownership in citizens among others.

Led by President Neten Zangmo, the party kicked off their campaign from the Memorial Chorten in Thimphu early this morning.

“Our party’s vision is to make our country self-reliant by instilling a sense of ownership among people. Under that broad vision, we have around 16 sections, which include taking care of our culture and traditions. We also have schemes for the development of private sector, addressing youth unemployment and improving the education system,” the BKP president said.

She added her party will also strive to redefine politics and politicians.

“Today, people view politics as dirty and politicians as untrustworthy. So, we need to change that perception and work to earn their trust.”

Ensuring 100 per cent irrigation and drinking water supply coverage, and providing affordable homes for all are the three main agendas of BKP.

“We have been to 17 districts and learned the rural communities are challenged with a shortage of irrigation water. Another thing is creating a market for the sale of agricultural produce. And the other thing is farm roads. There are more than 60,000 kilometres of farm road constructed at huge costs but not all are usable,” BKP’s president shared.s

The party president, along with the representatives from different constituencies, visited Dechhephug Lhakhang and Palden Lhamoi Goenkhang at the Tashichho Dzong to receive blessings prior to launching the campaign.

The party representatives will start campaigning once the respective returning officers in the district finalize the schedule for the campaign.

The election campaign for the primary round ends on 13th September.
