The Tourism Council of Bhutan has been absorbed into the Ministry of Economic Affairs as its Tourism Department. The change is part of the ongoing civil service transformation and restructuring initiative. 

When the labour ministry took over the 200-bedded quarantine facility in Gelephu as a workforce management centre last month, taxi drivers in the town were hopeful of a better business prospect. But their hopes were crashed when agents processing permits for foreign workers at the centre offered transportation services to the same drivers every time. The agents process permits and also facilitate taxi services for foreign labourers.  

To commemorate the 14th Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty The King, more than 80 runners took part in the 15th edition of the Thimphu Half Marathon, held this morning. 27-year-old Sangay who came in third in the recent snowman race secured the first position in the men’s category. And Goma Pradhan bagged the first position in the women’s category.

Nganglam Dungkhag in Pema Gatshel is currently abuzz with the construction of a dry port, which is perhaps the biggest trade infrastructure project commencing there in decades. This has led to the anticipation of good economic prospects among the landowners of Pelzomthang and Rinchenthang. These places are nearby the dry port construction site.

Orange farmers in Zhemgang already started receiving advance payments from business people in Paro, Thimphu and Gelephu. This is because the orange yield in the district is expected to double this year compared to previous years. Orange is one of the main cash crops for farmers in Zhemgang.
