Finance Ministry announces austerity measures

All annual, quarterly and monthly reports will be posted to agencies’ websites or distributed electronically to eliminate paper publications. This is one of the austerity measures the finance ministry announced on 1st September. The ministry through its notification announced nine cost rationalisation measures to ensure proper management of scarce public resources. The measures will come into effect immediately until revised or revoked.

BIMSTEC streamlines its areas of cooperation to seven sectors

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) has streamlined its areas of cooperation from 14 sectors to seven. The organisation’s Secretary General, Tenzin Lekphell, who is currently in the country on an introductory visit said this has been done so that proper focus can be given to the priority areas.

Plot owners seek more time to construct houses in new Tsangchhutham town

The relocation of Tsangchhutham town under Phuentshogthang Gewog of Samcholing Drungkhag in Samdrup Jongkhar began in 2019. However, COVID-19 coupled with other obstacles like scarce financial resources are hindering some plot owners to shift to the relocated site. They have now requested a further time extension of six months to one year from the district administration.   

BFF to hold a disciplinary meeting following Thimphu City and Paro Ringpung match

Thimphu City FC have moved to the top of the BoB Bhutan Premier League after their latest win yesterday. They defeated Paro Rinpung FC with five goals to nil in a heated match that also saw two players from the losing team get sent off. The Bhutan Football Federation will also be investigating the season’s first disciplinary case following reports from yesterday’s match officials of unsportsmanlike behaviour by some players.

Silambi GC road blacktopping delayed

Local leaders and residents of Silambi Gewog in Monggar are not happy with the slow progress of the blacktopping works of the 64-kilometre GC road. The blacktopping work that began two years was supposed to complete in June this year.

ECB proposes work experience requirements for aspiring politicians

Any aspiring political candidate could now be required to have 10 years of work experience to take part in the National Council elections, and five years in the National Assembly field. This is if the Election Commission’s new rules on election conduct come into effect.
