BOC-FUNAKOSHI table tennis championship

The Open Men’s singles and Open Women’s singles finals of the BOC-FUNAKOSHI table tennis championship were played yesterday. Leki Dorji won in the men’s category and Sonam Dema won the women’s title. Namgay Dorji and Tandin Wangmo won the finals of the open lucky doubles played on Saturday. And Chogyal Phurba was the winner of the open under-15 single category. Around 60 people took part in the annual tournament which began on Wednesday.

First-ever regional Taekwondo tournament

Yonten Kuenjung Academy won the first ever regional Taekwondo tournament in Phuentshogling. More than a hundred students from eight schools took part in the two-day tournament which ended yesterday. The winners of different weight classes will compete in the national league tournament in Thimphu. 

Police conduct intensive patrolling to prevent crimes- Thimphu

With the gradual relaxation of the COVID restrictions, Thimphu is seeing a surge in the crime rate, especially battery cases. Police in the capital have recorded more than thirty battery cases within this month, the highest this year. To prevent such crimes, police started intensive patrolling since Friday. 

Six households in Lhamoi Dzingkha Gewog seek immediate river protection measures 

Ensuring sustainable agriculture has remained a distant dream for the six households of Kuendrelthang and Lungsilsa chiwogs under Lhamoi Dzingkha Gewog in Dagana for years now. Every monsoon, the river erosion erodes some portion of their farmlands. Now, the households are seeking interventions from the concerned authorities before they bear irreparable losses.  

People in Gagar-Karshong welcome bridge over Mangdechhu – Trongsa

People of Gagar-Karshong chiwog of Nubi Gewog in Trongsa will no longer have to travel via Trongsa town to reach their Gewog office at Bemji. This is because a Bailey Bridge is launched at Thrisipang, connecting the gewog office with the villages on the other side of the Mangdechhu.

Bhutan to expect slightly above normal rainfall this monsoon- NCHM

The country is expected to have a wet summer this year. According to the National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM), there will be slightly above normal rainfall this monsoon season. The centre is advising the public to be cautious during the coming months of June, July, August and September.

Lhamoi Dzingkha Gewog receives reliable drinking water supply

The dream of getting a reliable drinking water supply has finally come true for the residents of Lhamoi Dzingkha Gewog in Dagana. The De-Suung National Service handed over the water project to the gewog yesterday. The new water supply was completed at a cost of Nu 31 M. It will benefit over 3,000 people in the gewog.

Farmers unhappy with poor potato yield- Pema Gatshel

Potato is one of the main sources of income for the people of Shumar and Zobel Gewogs in Pema Gatshel. About 250 households in the two gewogs grow potatoes commercially. But the yield this year has not been very good. Farmers say their produce has been heavily damaged by the armyworm pest.

No question over sustainability and eligibility of specialists services at Wangduecholing Hospital- Chhoekhor_Tang MP Dawa

The Chhoekhor_Tang’s Member of Parliament, Dawa, says the specialists recruited at the Wangduecholing Hospital in Bumthang are not on temporary placement amid scepticism from the public on the sustainability of the services after they were unveiled to the people yesterday. Deploying four specialists at the hospital was one of the major pledges the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa launched during the 2020 National Assembly bye-election.
