Study finds almost 37 per cent rise in domestic violence cases

COVID-19 pandemic has led to a surge in domestic violence (DV) cases across the globe. And Bhutan is no exception. As per the Impact Assessment Report of COVID-19 on Women and Children, DV cases in the country increased by almost 37 per cent amid the pandemic.

International Solar Alliance – for diversified power in Bhutan

A hydropower giant, Bhutan exports about 80 per cent of its power to India. However, during winter, it imports from the country to meet its demand, costing the country millions. But if Bhutan becomes a member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), this could change. The National Assembly discussed this today while deliberating on the Framework Agreement on the establishment of the ISA. It is an alliance initiated by India for the efficient consumption of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. 

Restrictions on religious activities and sports until LG election ends- Trashigang

People in Trashigang are not allowed to conduct any religious activities or organize sports until the local government election is over. The district election issued a notification on November 3. But the decision has not gone down well with the people there.

Republic of Korea awards Order of Diplomatic Service Merit to a Bhutanese

Health ministry hands over Bhutan Health Sector Development Programme to Monggar

Health Secretary Dr Pandup Tshering and Monggar Dzongdag Ugyen Sonam signed the handing-taking of the Bhutan Health Sector Development Programme in Monggar today. As a part of the project, the health ministry through the Asian Development Bank allocated more than Nu 32 M in Monggar to construct water reservoir and source protection, toilets, satellite clinic and pits in most of the health centres.
