Community Lhakhang in need of renovation in Gongphu village, Zhemgang

A community Lhakhang of Gongphu village under Trong Gewog in Zhemgang is in dire need of renovation. The Lhakhang located at the heart of the village is believed to be established in the 8th century. With its dilapidated condition now, devotees feel no longer safe to carry out their religious activities. 

Phuentshogling continues to record positive cases from the community

Despite lockdowns and other restrictions, the Phuentshogling town continues to see COVID-19 positive cases from the community. This has left an air of uncertainty looming over an otherwise busy town. The most recent case from the community was reported on Friday when six individuals tested positive.

Need for embankment in Thanggoo Chiwog, Wangdue Phodrang

With the onset of the monsoon season, residents of Thanggoo Chiwog under Thedtsho Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang raise the need for a proper river embankment. This, they say, would prevent flooding in their area due to the swelling of Punatshangchhu. With no embankment, residents fear the swollen river poses threat to human life but also to livestock and crops. 

Flow Hive, a new honey extraction method proves successful

Flow Hive Technology, a new method of honey extraction and the first of its kind proved a success in the country. A team from the National Highland Research and Development Centre (NHRDC) piloted the technology in Bumthang recently. The Flow Hive method, developed by an Australian father-son duo, is often dubbed as ‘Honey on Tap”. This is because beekeepers can turn a tap on their beehives and simply watch honey flow into their jars.

Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) should review courses offered in various colleges and consider consolidation and amalgamation of some courses offered by different colleges to pool limited resources, particularly qualified teachers. This is one of the food for thoughts from the latest book release of Dasho Zangley Dukpa. The Book titled “Sherubtse College, An Epitome of Higher Education in Bhutan” was released yesterday.

Poor farm road irks residents of Wangling village, Trongsa

Having a farm road serves no purpose if it is not maintained. Likewise, the people of Wangling village under Langthil Gewog in Trongsa are not happy with their poor farm road construction. The residents say the seven-kilometre road which was constructed some six years ago is in need of maintenance. With the steep rocky slopes and poor condition, they say it poses risks to commuters and motorists.  

Health ministry detects 32 new HIV cases in the last six months

In the last six months, the health ministry detected 32 new HIV cases in 17 males and 15 females. The majority of them are between 25-49 years old. All of them have acquired the infection through unprotected sex. With this, the total number of HIV cases detected in the country since the first one in 1993 stands at 773. 

Restoration of irrigation canal helps farmers grow paddy on time in Punakha

Irrigation water issue due to burst pipes was a constant struggle for farmers during paddy transplantation season in Jibjo-Yuesarkha village under Toedwang Gewog in Punakha. But not anymore. With the water pipes repaired, farmers carried out paddy transplantation without any problem. They are happy they could do their paddy transplantation on time.

Kanglung’s new water supply at halt with no pipeline for water distribution

People of Kanglung Gewog in Trashigang were excited about the new water supply. However, without a pipeline to distribute treated water from the main reservoir tank to the respective water tanks, the water supply is at a halt. People say the water they are currently sourcing from a nearby stream is not sufficient. 

ACC implicates Shelnga-Bjemi Gup and four others for state land encroachment case

The Anti-Corruption Commission has implicated the Gup of Shelnga-Bjemi Gewog in Punakha, his wife and three other individuals in an alleged state land encroachment case. According to the ACC, the gup allegedly misused his power and registered 80 decimal land in his wife's name.
