Thrompon elect Uttar Kumar Rai, Phuentshogling

Former Thrompon Uttar Kumar Rai is the Thrompon elect of Phuentshogling Thromde. He secured 336 votes defeating three other candidates. BBS caught up with him after the results were declared.

Learning the art of bamboo weaving, Pema Gatshel

Neomicrocalamus, locally known as Yula, is a wild bamboo species used to produce various handicrafts. It has ecological, economical and bio-cultural values in Bhutan especially for the production of handicrafts which supports the rural communities. While it is widely grown at Khangma under Yurung Geowg in Pema Gatshel, people have not produced anything out of it. So to make people aware of its benefits, the Division of Forest Office is conducting a month-long training in Bangchung weaving in the village with support from the Helvetas office. 

De-suung National Service Water Project to solve water woes in Gomdar Gewog, Samdrup Jongkhar

Residents of Mokhoma and Brongshing villages in Gomdar Gewog, Samdrup Jongkhar will get reliable and adequate drinking water within the next two months. The De-suung National Service launched the new water project on Monday. The project is expected to solve the issue of inadequate drinking water supply for more than 55 households. 

Movement restriction in Ashikhar village after a man enters the village illegally through the border, S/Jongkhar

The movement of people in Ashikhar village in Dewathang gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar is restricted after a 30-year-old man returned to the village from India through an illegal route along the border. According to the villagers, the man went to India last year and did not return.  The man has no job as such and did some part-time work in India.

Internal Audit Training for monks

The Central Monastic Body is one of the biggest autonomous institutions in the country with financial support from the government in the form of annual grants and private funds from public donations. Apart from Royal Audit Authority's annual auditing, the Zhung Dratshang also has its own internal audit to provide transparency for the funds granted and donated. The lack of professional capacity for the monks working as internal auditors is the biggest challenge. However, this is expected to change with the finance ministry's effort to provide internal audit training to the monks. 

Supreme Court upholds High Court’s judgment sentencing former Head of Chancery of the Bhutanese Embassy in Bangkok to over nine years in prison

The Supreme Court upheld the judgment passed by the Larger Bench of the High Court regarding the case involving the former Head of Chancery of the Bhutanese Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. Chenda Tobgay, the former head of chancery was convicted of embezzlement, official misconduct and deceptive practice. He was sentenced to nine years and eight days in prison. was asked to restitute close to Nu 10.9 M to the government within six months. The judgment was passed today.

ECB all set for the poll day, Thromde Elections

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) is all set for the poll day of the thromde elections, tomorrow. The commission said they planned for two different circumstances, in case of a lockdown and another in the pandemic situation. Meanwhile, as of today morning, Phuentshogling saw an increase in the voter turnout compared to the 2016 thromde election.
