Thirteen more test positive for COVID-19 from the PM’s entourage in quarantine

Except for the two artists from the Royal Academy of Performing Arts (RAPA), so far, no one else from the Prime Minister's entourage to Bangladesh tested positive for COVID-19. The routine test for the delegates was conducted yesterday. The results were all negative.

More number of registered postal voters for the Thromde election

The number of registered postal voters is high this time compared to past Thromde elections. According to the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB), over 1,500 voters have registered for the postal ballot for the upcoming Thromde election. This is because the ECB lifted the eligibility criteria to register for the postal ballot.  

Parking fee hike in the capital

Parking a car in Thimphu has become an expensive affair. From Nu 15 along the Norzin Lam and Nu 10 in other areas, the parking charges increased to Nu 20 per 30 minutes in all the areas in the city starting from today. And as per the concession agreement between Thimphu Thromde and KCR Pvt Limited, the parking fee tariff will be revised annually starting next year upon approval from the finance ministry.

Biogas use getting popular in Dorokha, Samtse

Methane gas from livestock manure is considered 24 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. According to experts, it is responsible for about 23 per cent of climate change in the 20th century. However, in what is considered a win-win situation, methane can be turned into a fuel that will also take carbon out of the air at the same time. In Dorokha, Samtse, the farmers are doing exactly that by churning cow dung into natural biogas. 

One-child seven skills policy to be implemented in schools, Lhuentse

Schools in Lhuentse Dzongkhag will start with a one-child seven skills policy from this academic session. The skills policy include specialising in art, culture, sports and athletes among others. It was decided during the recent Dzongkhag Education Conference. The initiative is in line with the Royal Decree on Education Reform and Civil Service Reform.

Suspected rabies outbreak in Jigmeling under Dekiling Gewog, Sarpang

People in Jigmeling under Dekiling Gewog in Sarpang were able to catch a suspected rabid dog today after the stray dog attacked four cattle, 11 dogs and a goat in the community, yesterday. They handed the dog to the Gelegphu Thromde Veterinary hospital, earlier today. The suspected rabid dog is kept in isolation and under observation.

First round of COVID vaccination completed in Lunana, Gasa

More than 370 people in Lunana, in the extreme north of Gasa, received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The team of seven health officials and seven Desuup personnel will start the home-based vaccination services for elderly people above 70 years of age and people with disability from this Sunday after vaccinating themselves.
