JDWNRH conducts first ACL reconstruction surgery

The Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) in Thimphu successfully completed its first-ever Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery earlier this week, a service that was not previously available in the country. The ACL reconstruction surgery is a procedure that doctors use to replace a torn ligament in the knee. It is one of the common injuries that sports enthusiasts incur.

Mobile phones worth Nu 1.6bn imported in 2020

The import of mobile phones has been increasing over the past few years. From luxury, it has now become a necessity. Records with the Department of Revenue and Customs shows the import of mobile phones has increased by more than double in 2020 compared to the previous year. Over 172,000 mobile phones worth Nu 1.6bn was imported last year.

A new glacial lake inventory reports only 17 potentially dangerous glacial lakes

For almost two decades, the number of glacial lakes in Bhutan is considered to be over 2,500 with over 20 potentially dangerous lakes. However, with an inventory on glacial lakes compiled by the National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM) recently, only 17 lakes are identified as potentially dangerous of over 500 lakes. According to the centre, the number is considered important as it serves as a primary source of information for any scientific studies as well as a basis for various socio-economic developmental planning in the country.

COVID-19 vaccine in respective zones for Thimphu residents

Thimphu residents can now visit the identified vaccination post in their respective zones to avail themselves of the COVID-19 vaccine. With this, the date, time and venue assigned to them earlier through the online vaccine registration is nullified. This according to the health ministry is done to avoid confusion.

Construction works yet to start in the new Dagapela town

Shop owners of Dagapela town in Dagana are yet to start the construction works on their lands as they await for the Dzongkhag Administration to carry out the land demarcation works. They were forced to vacate their previous settlements in December last year for demarcation works. They were told that they would be granted the construction approval after a month.
