New 44M irrigation scheme to close the lid on old 62M project in Tashichhoeling, Samtse

A Nu 62 M project to bring irrigation water from the Biru River to Tashichhoeling in Samtse has not benefitted anyone. The Department of Agriculture centrally constructed the irrigation scheme some seven years ago. And an additional Nu 9.6 M was also spent to renovate the irrigation canal. However, this will all be in vain as a new irrigation scheme over the same canal is in the pipeline. 

Same old wastes around tourist destinations even without a single foreign visitor

The country has not received a single tourist after the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the world almost a year ago. But what remains the same even after a year is the waste problem. From filthy trails to plastic-choked waterways, litter is still threatening some of the destinations and wildernesses in the country. While most people blamed tourists for the wastes in and around tourist destinations before, Bhutanese environmentalists say residents are no different.

RAPA to upgrade its courses to National Diploma

The Royal Academy of Performing Arts (RAPA) will soon upgrade its courses to a National Diploma. It has completed validating the diploma curriculum and is expected to be introduced soon. 

GAB adds waddling tour as one of the tourism products in the country

Commemorating the 12th Foundation Day of the Guide Association of Bhutan (GAB), a waddling tour was added as one of the tourism products in the country, yesterday. The stream at the base of Sangaygang in Thimphu has been developed as the country’s first waddling trail. Waddle is a walk with short steps and swaying motion, as in a penguin-like walk.

Applied Sciences as the fifth stream in schools, draft 21st Century Economic Roadmap

Applied Sciences should be introduced as the fifth stream in schools in the country according to the draft 21st Century Economic Roadmap. This recommendation comes in view of mainstreaming Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the education system as a whole. At present, the subject choice in high schools is limited to Science, Arts, Commerce, and Rigzhung.

Youth farm groups revive acres of fallow land, Sarpang

Many villages across the country are struggling with people leaving the lands fallow. In Chhudzergang Gewog of Sarpang, bushes and jungles are the last vestiges on the acres of once bountiful lands. However, the long-abandoned private farmlands are getting revived. The gewog administration recently leased 112 acres of uncultivated land to three youth farming groups for  mass cultivation. The private plots are on lease.

Tsirang gets a Community Learning Center, after more than two decades since the first community center was established in the country. A center in Mendrelgang Gewog was inaugurated recently.

Lower Migkuri hopes for a farm road to keep up with the developmental changes, P/Gatshel

Lower Migkuri under Dungmaed Gewog in Pema Gatshel wears a look of the past. Crucial developmental activities have not blessed the community yet. People there still walk for almost an hour to the village from the nearest road point. They are now hoping for a farm road to see basic development in their village.
