His Majesty graces the Closing Ceremony of the Parliament

His Majesty The King graced the closing ceremony of the sixth session of the third parliament today. During the ceremony, the parliamentarians offered Zhabten for His Majesty’s Longevity, members of the Royal Family, and for the peace and prosperity of the country. The sixth session of the third parliament began on the 24th of last month.

Monggar elects women Gups for the first time

The third Local Government election not only saw an increase in female voters but the number of women candidates winning various positions also saw a huge margin compared to past elections. For the first time, Monggar elected two women as gups. Both are university graduates.

The longest-serving gup in Lhuentse wins again

From Chipeon to the Dzongkhag Tshogdu chairperson, Jarey Gup-elect Kinzang Minjur served the gewog for over two decades. He has served Jarey Gewog in Lhuentse as Gup for the last 14 years, making him the longest-serving gup in the district. He won the recent local government election by 191 votes.

Zhemgang chooses mostly university graduates as gups

It may be a remote district but people know what they want. And Wednesday’s election results made it loud and clear. One of the least developed districts Zhemgang chose mostly university graduates as gups. From one, Zhemgang now has six university graduates as local government leaders. Five are gup-elects in Bardo, Ngangla, Nangkor, Goshing and Trong Gewogs. And one is a Tshogpa-elect in Bjoka Gewog.

No green chillies on the menu for people in Dagana

Stories about chillies rotting in the field and fetching disappointing prices a few months ago came back to haunt some parts of the country again. Like in every winter, some districts are facing a shortage of the spice this time too. In Dagana, it has been more than a month since the residents laid their hands on green chillies. They say although the district produces green chilli, it is sold in Thimphu as the price is better there.

Primary sector sees the highest growth in five years- State of the Nation report

The primary sector of the economy which includes agriculture, livestock and forestry saw one of the highest growths in the last five years last year. It recorded a growth of 4.57 per cent. It is an increase of more than 3 per cent from 2019. This is as per the third State of the Nation report.

PDP calls on the PM to present a proper state of the nation report

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said the Prime Minister should present a proper annual report of the state of the nation as enshrined in the constitution. A press release from the party states that "distributing hard copies of the report cannot be substituted for what is required by the constitution..."

Karma Feeds decides to compensate affected poultry farmers

Karma Feeds has decided to give monetary compensation to poultry farmers affected by the recent incident. Thousands of birds died from supposedly contaminated feeds. The monetary compensation comes to about Nu 26 M. The company also replaced the feeds for free.

Lyonchhen pledges to deliver the highest level of accountability

Presenting the third State of the Nation report in the parliament today, Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering pledged to deliver the highest level of accountability.
