Locals in Tagtse disappointed with the never happening Local Area Action Plan

People of Tagtse under Draagteng Gewog in Trongsa are disappointed with the never happening local area action plan. The least they expect to see is resurfacing of the unpaved road that runs through Tagtse College of Language and Culture Studies. But nothing has come of it today. The preparation of the action plan began in 2015. 

Druk Wangyel Pazap Cham, a crowd puller at Gelegphu Tshechu

A huge number of people turned up to attend the last day of annual Gelegphu Tshechu that ended yesterday. The addition of Druk Wangyel Pazab cham in its annual Tshechu drew a huge crowd. Her Majesty The Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, accompanied by  Galyum Thinley Choden graced the last day of the Tshechu.

Shortage of lay monks to perform local ritual in Trashigang

A decline in the number of lay monks or Gomchhens in Passaphu-Peydoong chiwog in Kangpar Gewog of Trashigang is putting local ritual on the verge of disappearance. Kagyay is a must performed annual ritual in Passaphu-Peydoong chiwog for the peace, prosperity and well being in the community. But today there are only a handful Gomchhens in the chiwog who can perform such a ritual.

Poor mobile network in Gongdue and Silambi

At a time when most parts of the country are connected with high-speed mobile internet connectivity such as 3G and 4G network, some corners in the rural pockets are facing mobile network issues. Parts of Silambi and Gongdue Gewogs in Monggar still do not have a reliable mobile network today.

Drivers unhappy over entry fee to the mini dry port in Phuentshogling

Drivers entering the mini dry point in Phuentshogling are unhappy over having to pay entry fee into the dry port. They claimed that the fee is quite high. The mini dry port became operational after the second entry gate was opened for heavy vehicles last month.

Land Commission to develop NSDI

In an effort to improve accessibility, reliability and affordability of geospatial information of the country, the National Land Commission (NLC) will develop a framework, the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI). This will help reduce the costs and duplication of tasks by different agencies. The Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a project to develop the NSDI, today.

Gelegphu Tshechu bans games

Some vendors who have been meaning to set up game stalls at the Gelegphu Tshechu are disappointed. The Sarpang Dzongkhag decided to ban games at the Tshechu this time. The three-day Gelegphu Tshechu began yesterday.

Stakeholders agree to have a common laboratory facility

Towards establishing the national forensic facility, the government has initiated the consolidation of forensic services in the country. Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering said, as of today all the agencies and authorities in the country are working in silos which consumes a lot of resources. The government during the last Meet the Press session announced the establishment of a full-fledged national forensic facility at the public health laboratory in Serbithang, Thimphu.

The OAG appeals the High Court for a harsher sentencing for rape convict

Unsatisfied with the Dagana district court's judgment on the case involving the rape of a 14-year-old schoolgirl, the Office of the Attorney General appealed the high court. In its judgment passed on the 20th of last month, the Dagana district court sentenced the convict, a 26-year-old man to 10 years in prison for the rape of the schoolgirl.
