Man sentenced to five years for rape of a married person and official misconduct. 

Thimphu District Court sentenced a 30-year-old man to five years in prison for rape of a married person and official misconduct. The judgment passed yesterday also asked the convict to pay Nu 243,750 ngultrum to the victim and her husband within 10 to 90 days from the day of judgment.

NC not satisfied with government’s responses on 12th Plan’s recommendations

The National Council is not happy with the government's responses to the recommendations the house made during the last session. The House of Review made 22 recommendations on the 12th Five Year Plan. Labelling the responses as unsatisfactory, members of the Council says in order to get clear answers they need to re-deliberate on the recommendations or question the relevant ministers during question-answer sessions.

Cordyceps, transforming people’s livelihood in Chhoekhor Toed

The livelihood of the people of Chhoekhor Toed in Bumthang has transformed since the collection and sale of Cordyceps in the country was legalised in 2004. A huge amount of money acquired from Cordyceps collection is spent on household ration, construction of houses and on children's education.

UNICEF Bhutan to the Rescue of Daksa Pry. School

A windstorm damaged an administration, three academic blocks and a dining hall at Daksa Primary School in Werringla in February this year. As an immediate relief, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has provided eight sets of tent to the School.

Indian Pitta spotted in Samtse

With the record of Indian Pitta, Bhutan now has 744 bird species. The new bird species was spotted by one of the senior forest rangers, Tashi Tshering at Sukreti in Samtse on May 19.

Bhutan is a host to more than 11,000 species of biodiversity as per the Biodiversity statistics of Bhutan released yesterday. The figure accounts for 0.8 per cent of the total biodiversity recorded for the world. There are 1.4 million species of biodiversity listed in the world to date.

Dumgtseg Lhakhang renovation to complete by August this year

The restoration works of the 600-year old Dumgtseg Lhakhang in Paro is expected to complete by August this year. The Royal Dumgtseg Lhakhang Restoration Project under Her Majesty’s the Royal Grandmother’s patronage to reinstate the historic temple to its former glory was started in June 2018.
