Basketball Championship attracts record number of participants

This year's Thimphu B-league Basketball Championship saw the highest participation so far. Twenty nine teams, including seven in women’s category, are taking part. The women’s team had four last year.

Bhutanese workers in Qatar not paid

More than 50 Bhutanese, working for Quality Hyper Market in Qatar, have not received their monthly salary since March, this year. Of the 50, 33 had been sent by the Global Recruitment Overseas Employment Agency.

The High Court acquitted Dr. Samdrup Wangchuk of bribery charges, recently. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had charged Dr Samdrup Wangchuk, a medical doctor with the National Referral Hospital in Thimphu, of receiving bribes from suppliers in procurement of medical equipment.

PCAL to revise wage rate for foreign workers

(Update): The Management of Penden Cement Authority Limited (PCAL) in Gomtu has agreed to pay the foreign workers equivalent wage to that of Bhutanese workers. From June, they will be paid Nu 215 a day.

Family members not to pursue custodial death case

(Update): The family members of a 35-year-old man, who died on April 20 in Dorokha Police Station in Samtse, say they will not pursue the case with the court. They had earlier accused the police personnel for the death.
