Ministers from east form committee to accelerate economic development

Four cabinet ministers have formed a committee to accelerate economic development in the eastern parts of the country. The ministers are agriculture minister, Yeshey Dorji, education minister, Mingbo Dukpa, economic affairs minister, Norbu Wangchuk and works and human settlement minister, Dorji Choden.

Landowner stops committee from clearing the road she blocked

(Update): A landowner in Bangay under Phuentshogling, who has blocked a Gewog Center Road since Tuesday, stopped the authority from clearing the road, today.

Government land encroachment cases being surveyed in Paro

About 190 cases of government land encroachment are currently being surveyed in Paro. Of the 10 gewogs in Paro, eight have government land encroachment cases.

Empowering women through sports

Bhutan’s Gender and Sports Committee under the Bhutan Olympic Committee has taken its first initiative to empower women through sports. The committee, formed in 2014, is giving three-day leadership training to 40 women in Thimphu. They are athletes, coaches, and sports administration, among others. The training began yesterday.

Landowner in Phuentshogling blocks GC road

A landowner in Bangay under Phuentshogling has placed huge stones, boulders, and mud in the middle of a Gewog Centre Road deliberating blocking it. Her action has led to the closure of the road since Tuesday. The road connects Phuentshogling town and Loggchina.

Percentage of stunting among children decreases

The percentage of stunting among children, below the age of five, has decreased by about 12 percent, according to the National Nutrition Survey Report, 2015. The figure stood at 33 percent in 2010. Stunting in children occur if they suffer from chronic malnutrition.

Number of cancer patients increasing

To observe the World Cancer Day today, people in Thimphu gathered at the Memorial Chorten to remember their loved ones they lost to cancer. Her Royal Highness Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuck graced the event to show solidarity.

Construction of Pema Gatshel Dzong to be completed on time

Construction of the Pema Gatshel Dzong is expected to be complete on time in 2018. After receiving the map for the new design of the Utse and Dratsha, the construction is going to begin. Construction of two administrative blocks and main entrance is already underway.

More than 250 taxis yet to register for Taxi Operating Permit

More than 250 taxis have not registered for the Taxi Operating Permit (TOP). If they do not register by the end of this month, they will not be allowed to operate.
