Her Majesty the Queen Mother Tshering Pem Wangchuck inaugurated the new pre-vocational building for Wangsel Institute in Paro, today. The new Nu 15 M structure was financed by Pro-Bhutan, a German Non-Governmental Organization.

The World Bank has committed an additional 3.8 million USD to mitigate the impacts of climate change in Bhutan. The funding would be utilized in disaster reduction improvement projects such as improved weather forecasting system and a pilot program for climate resilience.

Bhutan is participating in the Mekong Business Challenge for the first time. It is an Entrepreneurship Competition for university students in the Mekong Region which includes Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Yunnan Province in China.

The government and the opposition are divided on the ratification of the European Investment Bank Framework Agreement. The Government maintained its stand that the agreement must be ratified in the joint sitting this time but the opposition says otherwise.

The Social and Cultural Affairs Committee of National Council proposed the government to make necessary investments in the agriculture sector and increase agricultural loan portfolio. Tshimasham Police arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly smuggling controlled substances, on Tuesday. The police say the suspect was in possession of contraband substances when he was arrested.

Tsirang Police detained two brothers, aged 12 and 11 for alleged burglary, on Monday. They apparently stole Nu 3000 and 100 Baht from a residence in Tsirang when the residents were away.

The Thunder Motors’ Chief Executive Officer, Tashi Wangchuk says while there is nothing wrong with the electric vehicles technically, it is the political aspect that has been limiting. The two local dealers of electric cars have had poor business, this year. Thunder Motors sold only 12 electric cars and the Singye Agencies fared even worse and sold none.
