Over 350 students from five different schools in Thimphu are participating in the 5th annual Thimphu Dzonkhag Sports Meet, which began yesterday. Participants will compete in various outdoor and indoor events. Winners will take part in the Regional Sports Meet with the schools of Thimphu and Paro. It is organised by Thimphu Dzongkhag.

The finals of the open football championship was held in Gelegphu on Thursday. Hatisar, a team from the neighbouring Indian town, defeated a team from AWP. Hatisar scored three goals while AWP managed to score only two goals. Sixteen teams including teams from Zhemgang and Assam took part in the tournament. It was organised by a group of football enthusiasts.

RCSC exempts some graduates from PE

According to the announcement posted on the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC) website, the RCSC exempted certain graduates from sitting for the preliminary examination (PE) this year.

Namgay Tongchoed prayers at Tashichhodzong

His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, their Majesties the Queen Mothers and their Royal Highness the Princes and Princesses attended the Namgay Tongchoed prayers at the Kuenray of the Tashichhodzong, yesterday.

In order to develop English language teaching skills in shedras and nunneries, monks and nuns took part in a 10 day Functional English training workshop. Some 38 monks from 11 Shedras and 10 nuns from 4 nunneries took part in the workshop. The sessions were conducted by instructors from the Ministry of Education. It was funded by the UNICEF. The training ended in Paro yesterday.
