Man killed and seven injured by lightning

A 36-year-old man was killed and seven other family members injured when a bolt of lightning struck a home in Samtse, yesterday.

Architects, environment officers, and industry officials from DHI Infra, ministries and corporate sectors have gathered for a conference in the capital today.  The two-day conference will focus on creating awareness and disseminate information with regard to good environment practices in economical or industrial areas in Bhutan. The conference is a part of JICA’s technical assistance to DHI Infra and Department of Industry for environmental impact assessment study of Jigmeling special economic zone in Gelephug.

Villagers accuse mining company of ruining their water source

The lime mining has cost them their water source; allege the villagers of Khariphu under Maedwang Gewog in Thimphu. As an act of defiance, 13 out of 46 households have refused to sign a clearance agreement.

Unusual friendship between animals strikes a chord

The unusual friendship that has blossomed between a pig and a bull has amazed the Namla community in Kanglung under Trashigang.  Dorji, the pig and a bull named Gadhar had struck up a friendship ever since they were just a piglet and a calf.

Community Forestry gains momentum in Samtse

Many communities in Samtse are showing keen interest in Community Forestry. The Dzongkhag has approved 35 Community Forests covering over 2,500 hectare since 2007.

De-Suung training begins

The 11th batch of De-Suung will begin their training. The program was launched at the Military Training Centre at Tencholing in Wangdue Phodrang, today. About 120 volunteers, including 31 women, are taking part in the program.
