Nation marks Intl Women’s Day, equality for women is progress for all
Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Sangay Choden Wangchuck, joined the people of Haa to celebrate the International Women’s Day today. Over 2000 people including teachers, students, civil servants and locals came together for the celebrations.
Up gradation of Sarpang LSS delayed
Sarpang Lower Secondary School was to be upgraded to a Middle Secondary School this year. But, it is not going to happen any time soon. The construction works have come to a halt since last week after the contractor missed the third extended deadline.
The ‘Honey Village’ of Jigme Chhoeling
More people in Jigme Chhoeling Gewog in Sarpang are rearing bees. Almost every household owns beehives. Known as ‘honey village', the locals here were trained to use hive with open top and moveable frames. Of 150 households, more than 90% of them are into the beekeeping business.
Border co-ordination meeting discusses sharing real time information
Sharing real time information on the cross-border illegal activities was one of the main discussions at the 22nd Border Districts Co-ordination Meeting, BDCM, with the West Bengal stage government held last week. The meeting emphasized that mechanisms, which are already in place between the two countries to share information would be strengthened.

India approves Rs. 17.65 billion for PHP I cost escalation
The government of India has approved Rs. 17.65 billion for the cost escalation of the Punatshangchu Hydropower Project I. The Indian government will release the amount in April after the internal procedures are completed. This was announced during the bilateral meeting between the Prime Ministers of Bhutan and India held on the sidelines of the 3rd BIMSTEC summit held in Myanmar.
Boat capsizes, man washed away
A man has been washed away after the boat they were travelling in capsized in the middle of Gongri River bordering Pema Gatshel and Monggar. Officials and locals are looking for his body. The incident occurred at around half past three yesterday, three kilometres upstream of Yangbari suspension bridge.
PM and his delegation back from BIMSTEC summit
Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and his delegation arrived in the country from Myanmar earlier today. While in Myanmar, Prime Minister met the President, Thein Sein, and other leaders of the government of the Union of Myanmar and held bilateral talks.
