Joint Sitting to decide the Disaster Management Bill

The National Assembly and the National Council will hold a Joint Sitting to discuss some sections of the Disaster Management Bill 2012, decided the National Assembly, today. The National Assembly could not endorse 11 sections in the Bill which were forwarded by the National Council. These sections will be re-deliberated in the Joint Sitting.

Man killed in accident

A 55-year-old Indian labour, died on the spot when the Mahindra jeep they were travelling in, went off road at Yongphula Zero Point in Kanglung. The accident occurred at around 2:15 pm today. The driver and the four other passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Dagana plot holders in a catch 22

By August next year, the shopkeepers in Dagana town will have to move to their new allotted plots. If they fail to do so, the district municipal will demolish the remaining huts.  But the plot holders say they are not happy and that the land allotment is unjust.

Going south

By this time of year, people from the picturesque village of Sagteng, in Trashigang, which is about 3,000 metres above sea level, migrate to higher altitude with their cattle. But not this time. They have instead started to move to the lower places and with a different purpose, to cultivate crops.
