Petrol price drops

The prices of petrol have come down by Nu. 1.82 to 1.89 per liter in different locations across the country. The department of trade says the new price will come into effect from midnight tonight. The reduction in the rates comes following a drop of petrol prices in India. In Thimphu, a litre of petrol will now cost Nu. 65.8.

Celebrating 100 years of education

Coinciding with the social forestry day and the coronation anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, students in Sarpang displayed an art exhibition celebrating 100 years of modern education in the country yesterday.

Accident kills a man

A 54-year-old man died today morning after a Maruti car he was traveling in went off road and fell more than 100 feet down the Thrumshingla pass. The driver is in a critical condition. Three people including the driver were travelling from Lhuentse to Bumthang when the incident occurred. It was 6 am in the morning.  The third person escaped without injuries. All of them come from Tshengkhar Village under Lhuentse Dzongkhag.

Opposition Leader has his say on RTI

While the government has indicated that Right to Information act is not a priority, the media in particular feels the need for one.  Supporting media is the Opposition Leader, Tshering Tobgay.

DHI’s reserve too less

Despite making billions, Druk Holding and Investments, today has about Nu. 400 million in their reserve. The amount is too less for investments, says the DHI’s Chief Executive Officer, Karma Yonten. The company had remitted Nu. 1.5 billion to the government from last year’s income.

Forestry day for a cause

Students of Loselling Middle Secondary school in Changjiji, Thimphu, planted tree saplings in their school compound to commemorate the social forestry day today. Social forestry day is celebrated on June 2 every year coinciding with the coronation anniversary of the fourth Druk Gyalpo.

His Majesty the King conferred Dakyen to the new Secretary General of the National Assembly at Tashichhodzong in the capital, today.

DHI’s income falls by 2.43%

The Druk Holding and Investments’ income fell by 2.43% in 2011, reveals the company’s last year report. A few of the companies under DHI failing to meet the expected revenue generation target had contributed to the decrease in the income of DHI.

It is the Pedestrian’s Day every Tuesday

From June 5 onwards, every Tuesday will be observed as the Pedestrian Day. Except for emergency services, passenger buses, vehicles of armed forces and bicycles, no vehicles will be allowed in Thimphu core area.

To ease crowded classrooms

The ongoing construction in Dzongsar community school under Tendruk Gewog in Samtse is expected to ease the overcrowding classrooms, the school currently faces.
