Tsirang as a tourist destination?

Tsirang Dzongkhag is favoured by many people for its suitable climatic condition. It is also known for its organic vegetables and poultry products. But, the Dzongkhag has not been able to attract many tourists. According to the business community, the Dzongkhag has potential to promote eco-tourism due to its rich bio-diversity.

One referred outside, one in stable condition

(Yangchenphu accident update) Of the two policemen who were critically injured in the accident above Yangchenphu area, the one who suffered brain injury has been referred to Kolkatta, India.  The other, suffering lung injury is reported to be in a stable condition. He has been now moved to the surgical ward.

Health officials warn of locally made medicines

Not everyone who sells medicine, especially the traditional ones are reliable. According to health officials Bhutanese have a tendency to blindly buy traditional medicines without confirming if the seller is registered with the Drug Regulatory Authority or not. The DRA is cautioning people to be careful of such people.

Children not registered for census, parents sick

Usually a child is registered for census when they turn one and sometimes even earlier. But in Meritsemo village under Chhukha Dzongkhag, there lives a family of six children whose case in otherwise. None of the children in the family has been registered for census.

Lack of timber hampers affected families

A strong windstorm blew-off roof of six houses and a Lhakhang in Tsendona village under Paro Dzongkhag on February 5. More than two months on the affected families have not been able to re-roof their houses as there is no timber available.

His Majesty grants audience to judiciary officials

1.6 Billion Rupees released for SDPs

The Government of India handed over a Cheque of Rs 1.6 billion for Small Development Projects (SDPs) to the Bhutanese government today. It has committed Rs seven billion to assist about 1,900 SDPs in the current 10th five year plan. This is the second release to assist over 800 projects.

Druk Me-Ser Tshogpa- another political party in the making

With the parliamentary elections drawing closer, another new political party is in the making. The ‘Druk Me-Ser Tshogpa’ is working on the party charter and manifestos. According to one of the senior members of the party’s core group, Dasho Penjor Dorji, the party has also begun the hunt for candidates. He said the party symbol has also been decided. However, they are yet to decide the color of the party symbol.

Teacher beaten up by a parent

A non-national school teacher of Pelkhil High School in Thimphu was beaten-up by a parent of a student. Medical reports say the teacher has suffered injuries around the eyes and has broken a tooth.  The parent is an expatriate UNICEF official working in the capital.

150 compete in TT Championship

The 17th National Table Tennis Championship started yesterday. More than 150 players, mostly students, are participating in the tournament.
