There are many kinds of radiation around us, natural as well as man-made. While radiations can be useful, it can also be harmful, especially those which are not natural like X-rays and CT scans. Radiations pose threat to the staff, patient and the public.

Electrical incinerator to be set-up on trail basis

Over Nu. 12 million was spent for setting up the four incinerators at Hejo cremation ground in Thimphu. Due to various reasons the incinerators remained idle for over a decade now. However, six months from now, these incinerators will be functional. On a trial basis, one of the existing diesel-incinerator will be renovated and run on electricity.

Community centre at Changjiji to be established

READ or Rural Education and Development, a NGO, will be establishing a community library, ICT, women and children’s centres at the Changjiji housing complex in Thimphu.

All weather mule track to Lunana progressing well

Lunana is one of the remote Gewogs in the country. It takes 10 days walk from the nearest motor-able road and eight days from Dzongkhag headquarter, that is Gasa. The Gewog remains virtually cut-off from the rest of country for about six months by snow. Mule track being the only route to communicate, the government has given priority to construct all season mule track for Lunaps following the Phochhu River.

Lesser devotees from Tawang at Chorten Kora

Until a few years ago a lot of people from Tawang in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh came for the Chenga Kora and the Namgang Kora in Trashiyangtse. But this number according to our reporter, Yeshi Nidup in Trashiyangtse is decreasing.

No commercial plots: MoWHS Minister

Shopkeepers in Damphu town in Tsirang will not receive commercial plots from the government. This was made clear by the Works and Human Settlement Minister, Yeshey Zimba, in a meeting with the business community and local leaders in Tsirang yesterday.

Bridge benefits 860 households of two Gewogs

A bridge, connecting Yalang and Ramjar Gewogs to the national highway at Doksum was inaugurated this week. It will benefit 490 households in Yalang Gewog and 370 households in Ramjar. The Yalang Gup, Chosung Wangdi, said it would encourage farmers to grow variety of vegetables and fruits. The bridge was built at a cost of Nu. 20 million.

2 Killed, 1 injured in vehicle accident

Two people were killed in an accident at Lamsarong in Samdrup Jongkhar. The accident took place at around 8:30 last evening. The oil-tanker truck that the deceased were travelling in fell-off about 50 metres below the road. The accident occurred at about 24 kilometres from Samdrup Jongkhar towards Trashigang.

Man arrested for illegal drugs possession

A 26-year-old man was arrested this morning from a house near the vegetable market area in Thimphu for possessing more than 1,000 contraband substances.
