Synthetic track to open soon, charge nominal fee

The outdoor synthetic athletic track located below the Yangchenphu Higher secondary school in Thimphu will be opened to the general public soon. The Bhutan Amateur Athletic Federation, BAAF, is working on a nominal membership fees for the users.

Bhutan loses again

(U-16 Cricket update) Bhutan lost its second match to Afghanistan in the Asian Cricket Council U-16 boys’ Challenge Cup in Thailand, yesterday. Bhutan lost by 311 runs.

Night archery tournament gets underway

The night five-men archery tournament on compound bow, an archery tournament played at night is underway in Phuentsholing. Fourteen teams are taking part in the tournament, which began from February 27.

Some Nangtens recovered

(Update) A search team deployed at the fire incident site at Paga Goenpa in Chhukha recovered two statues of Tenpa, a Cherenzi statue, and few manuscripts. The relics were recovered from the rubble. The Goenpa was razed by a fire on February 29.

Windstorm damages Gomdar school

A windstorm on Wednesday evening has caused damages to Gomdar Lower Secondary school in Samdrup Jongkhar. According to the school authorities sudden gust of wind at around 6.30 pm brought down the roof of the old academic building and staff quarter.

Lack of budget hampers farm road constructions

With the 10th Five Year Plan nearing completion the Tsirang Dzongkhag is facing short of more Nu. 12 million for the construction of farm roads.Of the nine farm roads planned, three could not be constructed. The recently held Dzongkhag Yargye Tshogdue, DYT, decided to construct the remaining three farm roads during the 11th Five Year Plan.

Alcohol spirit factory inaugurated

The newly constructed Bhutan Centennial Distillery at Bhur, Sarpang was inaugurated on Friday. Constructed at a cost of Nu.423 million, it will produce grain based extra neutral alcohol spirit.

Bhutan’s U-16 Boys’ cricket team lost its first match against United Arab Emirates by 151 runs in Asian Cricket Council U-16 Challenge Cup. The match was played yesterday. UAE won the toss and chose to bat first.

Thousands attend the Purjang of Late Dungse Rinpoche

The Purjang ceremony of Late Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche was held today coinciding with the 10th day of first Bhutanese month. Despite the cold, tens of thousands of devotees gathered at Dagophu Goenpa in Paro as early as 4 am. The Sungchoe prayers were presided over by Dudjom Yangsey, lams and lopens.
