The National Assembly today adopted The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Of the 42 members present in the house, 41 members voted in favour of the convention. The house yesterday deliberated on five reservations by the government on the convention with members of the house supporting only two of it. The Health Minister, Dechen Wangmo who represented the Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister, today said the reservations on a few clauses do not mean that the government will not work in those areas. The minister also expressed gratitude for the adoption of the convention. It will now be forwarded to the National Council for further deliberations.
