Some of the members of the parliament raised the sustainability issue as the cause of concern for the central schools. The members asked the Education Minister, Mingbo Dukpa to provide clarification on the issue during the Questions Hour session held in the National Assembly, today.
The Kengkhar-Weringla MP, Rinzin Jamtsho said the central schools have caused lot of concerns and dissatisfactions among the people, one of them being the sustainability issue.
In response, Lyonpo Mingbo Dukpa said the cabinet had discussed the issue many a time. He said the policy and programme of the central school was formed based on sustainability. He said the government, during a UNESCO conference, had pledged to provide free education no matter how expensive.
The minister then sought support from the Members of the Parliament for the programme to be successful.
The labour minister, Neema Sangay Tshempo said there is an adequate fund for the central school as it was already part of the 11th five year plan. He said they are in the process of discussion about the fund for the next five year plan.
“The implementation of central school has not hampered any other development activities,” said the foreign minister, Damcho Dorji.
Meanwhile, the other concern raised was inequality in the allotment of central schools among the dzongkhags.
Lyonpo Mingbo Dukpa said central schools are being put in place phase-wise on the size, conditions, and needs of a dzongkhag.
