DPT-MonggarThe Druk Phuensum Tshogpa’s (DPT) President Jigmi Y. Thinley said their Monggar candidate Karma Lhamo, has the required calibre to become a minister. He was speaking to the people of Monggar, yesterday.

He said women can be better politicians as capabilities define personalities.  “Someone has said men are better politicians. He/she is not an intelligent person,” said Jigmi Y.Thinley.

A press release from DPT says the remarks were made in the wake of PDP candidate from Monggar constituency who has reportedly been going around saying he will become a minister and that Karma Lhamo has no capabilities.

“To become a minister, he must first win the elections,” the President said.

Jigmi Y. Thinley also said that among the major achievements during their tenure, the intangible ones were more important.

Some examples of DPT’s intangible feats were establishment of a democratic set-up, safeguarding of the country’s security, spreading the message of social harmony, and respecting the rule of law among others. He said a good precedence has been set by the DPT government.

The DPT President reacted to statements by the PDP President as well, on how the DPT government went about with Bhutan’s foreign policy. He underlined that diplomatic relations with a country need not be based just on economic or military strength. He said, “Only selfish people looking for personal gains will try to befriend those with power and neglect the deprived ones.”Jigme Y Thinley shared that it was difficult to imagine that the former opposition leader could have even made such a statement.

The people of Monggar, Drepoong and Kilikhar were familiarised with DPT’s manifesto as well.
