A 32-year-old man, from Monggar Dzongkhag, has been sentenced to 14 lifetime-imprisonments. It is, perhaps, a first case the country has ever seen.

Lhuntse District Court gave him two life-imprisonments for vandalising two chortens in Lhuntse. The Monggar District Court sentenced him to 12 life-imprisonments for vandalizing 12 Chortens in Monggar.

According to the Penal Code of Bhutan, a person convicted for vandalizing a chorten is sentenced to life imprisonment.

The man still has some cases pending against him in other Dzongkhag Courts for vandalising chortens.
