Man detained for allegedly attacking a taxi driver and stealing his car

A 26-year-old man from Pema Yoedling village in Serzhong Gewog is detained by Gelegphu police for allegedly attacking a taxi driver with a knife from the back seat when the vehicle was on the move and running away with the car.

The incident took place along the Gelegphu- Sarpang highway at Samtenling Gewog today.  According to the victim, who is the taxi driver, the suspect reserved his taxi on a round trip from Gelegphu to Jigmeling and back to Gelegphu. He was attacked by the accused on the way to their destination. The victim said he saw the suspect attacking him from the back seat in his rearview mirror. He said he held on the suspect’s hands and stopped the car. He escaped with a little cut on the chins and sought help from the passing vehicles.

In the midst of chaos, the suspect took his vehicle and ran away from the scene towards Sarpang. The victim said he immediately informed the Gelegphu traffic police. The suspect was arrested after the car he allegedly stole from the victim toppled over at Dorkohla after passing Chhoekhorling under Dekiling gewog. The suspect escaped unhurt with some minor injury.

The victim is 42 years old and also from Serzhong Gewog. Gelegphu Police are investigating the case.
