Jigmeling Industrial Park in Sarpang is finally expected to receive a reliable water supply by the end of this month. The industrial park has been without one since the water supply project which was supposed to complete last year, got delayed due to the COVID pandemic. Today, there are two factories operating at the industrial park.

For now, the Construction Development Corporation Limited which is executing the work has completed the construction of intake tank at the source and the laying of pipes to the factories.

The capacity of the intake water tank at the source is 10 million litres.

“Our progress till now is 98 per cent. The remaining two per cent includes work like tracking leakages while releasing the water and carrying out maintenance if any,” said Tenzin Norbu, Project Manager.

The works to supply water at the estate started in 2021.

Jigmeling water supply project costing around Nu 300 M is funded by the Indian Government.

Around 43 business owners were allotted plots at the industrial park but a majority of them could not start their project. Although a few owners have completed the structures, they have yet to operate the business.

The industrial park spread over 755 acres of land is mainly to promote private sector development, socio-economic activity and create employment opportunities.
