LPG-Kerosene-Price-DoubledThe Ministry of Economic Affairs through the Bhutanese Embassy in New Delhi has requested the Ministry of External Affairs, India, to look into the withdrawal of subsidy on LPG and kerosene. The request takes into account the impact of subsidy withdrawal on the Bhutanese consumers.

This comes after the subsidies on LPG and Kerosene were withdrawn by the Indian government and the price of both the commodities doubled. The new prices came into effect from today.

The Indian media has reported that the prices have increased due to the depreciation of the rupee value against dollar.

Rupee is said to have reached an all-time low of 60.73 against the US dollar. The Indian Media have also reported saying the move aims to reduce the huge subsidy burden on the Indian Government.
