Over 800 people in Darla Gewog benefitted from His Majesty’s Kidu Mobile Medical Unit. The unit travels to remote parts of the country to provide free medical services to the people.
The unit attended patients of diverse age groups suffering from various ailments from hypertension to dental. Among many of the patients who visited Basic Health Unit (BHU) in Darla, Deki Wangmo is one of them. A mother of three, she has been suffering from gallbladder disease since three years ago.
Her first two attempts to get rid of the disease were a failure as she could not meet the doctor in Thimphu. Her next two attempts also did not turn out to be fruitful even though she could meet the doctor. With no one to look after her kids, she sacrificed the surgery and headed back home.
But things changed for her, when she was attended by renowned surgeon in the country at her doorstep through the mobile medical unit. Ever grateful of such initiative, she said she was blessed to see His Majesty in person for the first time before the surgery. Her two wishes have been fulfilled at a time.
Like Deki, many of the patients had come to visit the BHU in the hope of getting rid of their ailments. They also expressed happiness to be able meet His Majesty the king.
The mobile medical unit team comprises of medical specialist, dentists, a gynecologist and health workers. Beside surgeries and endoscopies, the unit also carried out ultrasound scanning for pregnant women and treated patients with eye problems.
