His Majesty The King grants audience to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Their Majesties meet Duke and Duchess of Cambridge-

His Majesty The King granted an Audience to Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the Golden Throne Room of the Tashichhodzong yesterday afternoon.

Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were ushered to Tashichhodzong in a traditional Chipdrel procession. On arrival at the main entrance of the dzong, the Britain’s Royal couple was received by ADC to His Majesty the King and the Chief of Protocol.


After that, Their Royal Highnesses were ushered to the Golden Throne Room where His Majesty The King granted an audience to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen was also present during the audience.

During the audience “His Majesty conveyed wishes to the Queen of the United Kingdom for her 90th birthday celebrations through the Duke and Duchess. Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her birthday on April 21.”

Following the audience, Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses granted photo opportunity to both local and international media at the courtyard of the Dzong. Their Majesties and Their Royal highnesses then proceeded to Grand Kuenray hall.

In the Grand Kuenray Hall of the Tashichhodzong, His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen offered prayers along with the Duke and Duchess. Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lit 1,000 butter lamps at the Grand Kuenrey.

Their Majesties and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge then proceeded to Lingkana palace. Their Majesties also invited the Duke and Duchess to the Lingkana Palace for a private dinner later in the evening.


Later in the afternoon, Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their gracious presence at the Changlimithang ground to witness an archery match and other traditional sporting events.

Briefly after witnessing an archery match, Britain’s Royal Couple held a bow and attempted a shot. The Royal Couple also attempted a shot by throwing Khuru, a traditional Bhutanese dart.

Their Royal Highnesses also met and interacted with students from Ability Bhutan Society and Draktso Vocational training centre for special children.

The event was hosted by His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck in honour of their Royal Couple’s visit to Bhutan. Despite light shower, Prince William and Kate Middleton enjoyed the festive occasion.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Bhutan yesterday morning.
