His Majesty the King accompanied by Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen graced the consecration ceremony of Yangthang Zhabden Choling Gonpa in Haa, yesterday. The gonpa, which is one of the largest in Haa, was reconstructed in 2012. The goenpa was reconstructed under His Majesty’s command after it was severely damaged by earthquake in 2011.
After reaching Yangthang Zhabden Choling Gonpa, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen offered prayers for the well-being of the people and the country.
The consecration heralded the ultimate celebration of the auspicious and joyous occasion for the community people as they witnessed their sacred monument being restored.
The consecration of the gonpa was presided over by the Dorji Lopen.
Their Majesties and Dorji Lopen led the gathering in an elaborate procession to circumambulate the gonpa to conclude the consecration with unique Tashi Ngasoel.
The two-storied gonpa houses main nangten of Buddha statue in the second storey. In the first storey, it houses the statue of Chenrezig.
The goenpa, along with Drasha, was reconstructed mostly through Royal Grant at the cost of more than Nu 18 M.
After the consecration ceremony, people gathered in the gonpa offered Zhabten and Mendrel Ku Sung Thukten to His Majesty the King
Hundreds of people who had gathered near the gonpa to meet Their Majesties offered Tshogchang. The villagers comprising mostly of elderly women presented various cultural programs.
Later, Their Majesties granted Tokha to the people who had assembled near the gonpa.
