The farm road connecting Monggar highway to Gorbagtang is risky for motorists. This is mainly due to constant erosion caused by rainfall and no maintenance works.
This farm road is used by all kinds of vehicle. Mostly it is used by heavy and medium vehicles to transport construction material and machinery to the construction site of Autsho bypass road. However, the farm road is not safe for use after heavy rainfall as the soil gets loose.
The farm road benefits five geogs in Monggar. On Monday, a brand new truck almost fell of the road and on Saturday a tripper truck went off the road.
“We have to transport sand and cement, for which we require trucks. It is very risky for trucks to ply on this farm road. We also have to use trailer trucks to transport machinery. The farm road is not maintained and we are not sure whose responsibility it is,” said Sangay Tenzin, a site supervisor.
The assistant engineer of Department of Roads said they only maintain and look after the highways. On the other hand the engineer with the Monggar municipality says the farm road should be looked after by the Department of roads as it is part of the highway
Until, the decision on who should maintain the farm road is reached, all commuters can do, is be extra careful while using the farm road.
