The Thimphu District Court sentenced a 24-year-old man from Paro to one and a half year in prison for battery. He was convicted for hitting the victim before forcing him to kiss his shoes and prostrate.

The case came to limelight after the one-minute video of the incident went viral on the social media in June this year. The police then arrested him and three of his friends for their involvement in the case.

The judgment says such an act is heinous, cruel and immoral. However, he can pay in lieu of his prison term.

The incident occurred on April 29 this year, after the main convict and his friends called the victim outside his college gate and then took him in their car and left the college campus.

According to an investigation report, the convict had a grudge against the victim after he was battered by the victim in March this year.

The court also sentenced three other men who were with the convict at the time of the incident to 24 days prison term for failing to report the crime.

The judgement says the main convict made one of his friends to make a video of the incident. However, they will not have to stay in prison, since they have already served 24 days in detention.

The convicts will not have to pay any compensation to the victim as the victim himself in his statement to the police said he did not want compensation.
