A single-storeyed house in Menjiwong chiwog under Serthig Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar was completely gutted by a fire yesterday at about 8 PM. A woman living with a disability and her husband was living in the house. They escaped unhurt.

However, all their belongings were lost to the fire. According to them, the fire first started from an electric spark which was caused while unplugging a rice cooker from the socket. The socket was near an LPG cylinder which ignited the uncontrollable fire. It took almost 45 minutes for the volunteers to contain the fire.

Kinley Wangchuk, Samdrup Jongkhar
