The construction of the hostels of Dungtse Central School began in 2015 and was supposed to be ready mid last year. However, more than a year past its scheduled completion date, the works remain incomplete.

Trashigang Dzongkhag Administration says the contractor has been given time extension. However, no signs of progress were seen at the site after which the Dzongkhag Tender Committee terminated the contract.

In September, the dzongkhag forwarded the case to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

As the hostel construction remains on hold, the people of Phongmed are worried.

“Our children face problem because of the shortage of hostel,” Norbu, a parent, said.

Phongmed Gup Pelden Dorji said the students who are supposed to avail boarding facilities have not been able to do so.

“This is hard to manage for students from Merag and Sagteng,” the Gup said.

Some 85 people of Phongmed wrote to the ACC about the issue recently. They hope the problem resolves and the construction works resume soon.

The ACC officials confirmed the case is in the process of being reviewed.
