Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) is working towards reinforcing the party’s hold on the grassroots. “It looks like as if we are giving importance to the party coordinators only when the elections are drawing nearer,” said the Party’s Secretary, Thinley Gyamtsho, “but the Party office has been in constant touch with them.”

An executive meeting of the party was held Thursday to discuss the remunerations to the Party coordinators and to enhance the Party’s relation with the people.

Thinley Gyamtsho said they are proposing a monthly salary of Nu.5,000 for Dzongkhag Party Coordinators, Nu.4,000 for constituency coordinators, and Nu.3,000 for gewog coordinators and Nu.2,000 for the Chiwog coordinators.

“The executive meeting decided that the salaries will be looked into by the fund-raising committee and will be decided according to the party’s budget.”

The meeting also saw a discussion on recruiting the local party coordinators who are committed to the party, and not necessarily to the candidate. He added the commitment to the party should remain irrespective of who the candidates are.  “The committee of seven members will prepare a guideline for the dzongkhag executive committee

The Party Coordinators and the members, mostly the Parliamentarians, attended the DPT executive meeting.
