Dorokha in darkness

Dorokha-Town-BlackoutResidents of Dorokha have been living without power supply since last Friday. The officer -in-charge from the Electricity Supply Division in Phuentshogling said they have been trying to locate the fault, which in between Bosokha to Tashiding.

Our reporter in Samtse, Karma Wangdi, said the power blackout has made the lives of the locals difficult. Besides causing inconveniences in offices, the local businesses are also hampered.

“Whenever there is lightening, the power supply gets disrupted. Hoteliers like us suffer as we depend entirely on electricity to prepare the meals. If it is for a day or two, it is fine. But it takes over a week to restore the power at times,” said Netra Raj Rai, a hotelier, Dorokha.

Some of the locals said in the absence of power their mobile phones run out of batteries. “We cannot even use our mobile phones during emergency,” said one of the residents.

Similarly, the students of Dorokha Middle Secondary School are also facing various problems. They said they are concerned that frequent power disruption might hamper their academic performance. Although the school has solar light facilities, the students sad, it doesn’t last longer. They added, switching to candles and kerosene lamp is expensive.

Meanwhile, it is not sure when the power will be restored.
