The Dorji Lopon of Zhung Dratshang has appointed three new Kudrungs or discipline heads. The three new Kudrungs are the Tshogchhen Kudrung which is for Thimphu, Shar Kudrung of Wangdue Phodrang and the Paro Kudrung. The Dorji Lopon conferred dhar to the new appointees at Punakha Dzong yesterday coinciding with the Traditional Day of Offering.
49-year-old Hodo from Maedwang in Thimphu has been appointed as the new Tshogchhen Kudrung. Prior to his present post, he served as a Kangjup at the Punakha Dzong. He joined the Zhung Dratshang at the age of nine and graduated from the Nalanda Shedra in Punakha. He also completed his three-year retreat from Tango Drupdey.
The new Kudrung of Paro is 37-year-old Tsencho Rinchen from Tsentok in Paro. He served as a Kumbaak Dodam at Zhung Budrel of the Punakha Dzong prior to his present post. He became a monk at the age of seven and completed his three-year retreat from Pangkar Goenpa in Punakha.
And 42-year-old Ugyen Tenzin from Lingmukha in Punakha is the new Shar Kudrung. Prior to his present post, he was a Kangjup at the Tashichhoe Dzong in Thimphu. He began his monkhood at the Dechenphodrang Central Monastic School and also served in the Budrel section of the Zhung Dratshang. He completed his Nyen-Tsham retreat from Lha Dzong Tashigang in Hongtsho, Thimphu.
According to the Zhung Dratshang Official, Kudrungs are appointed annually on this auspicious day.
