Students with disabilities in Damphu Middle Secondary School in Tsirang now have a well-furnished skilling unit. Until today, the students learned the skilling programmes in their classrooms. Acquiring various skills can help the students prepare for a better future.

The one-storey building, which is located adjacent to the inclusive toilet, has six units with a spacious corridor.

According to the school’s Inclusive Education Coordinator, the skilling room will help students pursue different skills like carpentry, tailoring, shoe-mending, culinary, laundry, and art education.

The school currently has 26 students with various disabilities receiving Special Educational Needs services.

“Once they get trained properly, making optimum use of these skilling rooms, they will be in a position to either transition into TVET institutes later after graduating from this school or they might be in a position to lead their own independent life. For example, today we have two students who are already pursuing tailoring in the school,” said Tshering Wangdi, Inclusive Education Coordinator of Damphu MSS.

A private individual from Tsirang helped the school management to construct the facility. He has spent over Nu 2 M to construct the building.

“They planned to build a small house, which can accommodate some 15 to 16 students. However, I visited the school and told them that I would sponsor the construction work. I informed them that I would build a concrete building,” said Penjor who funded the construction work.

He also donated two sewing machines to the school. The school was identified as the inclusive school in the district in 2018.
