Works to repair the boys’ hostel of Mendrelgang Middle Secondary School in Tsirang, which was gutted by a fire on 29th June, will begin soon. The Dzongkhag administration has received funds from the Department of Disaster Management to repair the damages.

Students affected by the fire are currently staying in the school’s multipurpose hall. The multipurpose hall has been partitioned to accommodate 75 students. The other half of the hall is used to organise co-curricular activities of the school when it rains. On other days school activities are organised outside.

The fire completely damaged the upper storey of one of the newly constructed boys’ hostels. Sixty seven students lost all their belongings.  The students were in the multipurpose hall appearing for their mid-term examination when the fire broke out.

The Dzongkhag administration has received over Nu. 1.8 million from the Department of Disaster Management to repair the damages.

The Dzongkhag is currently in the process of floating tenders. Repair works are expected to commence soon once the tender has been floated
