The controversial Shingkhar Gewog Centre Road in Zhemgang is again in the limelight. This time, people of Wamling are accusing the local leaders of misleading them, by resuming the construction works of the road, as per the previous alignment.
According to the previous alignment, the road does not pass through Wamling village.
The villagers say the local leaders had told them the road would pass through their village.
Tshering Wangdi of Upper Wamling, said the flip-flop decision is making people unhappy.
The construction of the road was halted for about four months following the differences amongst the villagers of Wamling.
“The problem began when the people of upper and lower Wamling wanted the road to pass through their village,” said Leki Dorji of Lower Wamling.
The Shingkhar Gup, Needup said they decided to stick to the previous alignment after seeking approval from the villagers.
The Department of Roads say it would be more expensive to build the road through Wamling as eight kilometres of the total 17 have already been constructed so far.
