Phuentsholing has become safer compared to last year, as per the records, the Phuentsholing police, maintains. Common crimes like auto-stripping, burglary, and battery have reduced by almost 50 percent.
Auto-stripping, which tops the list of crimes in the town, has come down to 13 cases this year as against 27 last year. Burglary cases are down to 16 from 19 last year.
Battery cases have also decreased to three from nine and breach of trust from 16 last year to six this year.
The decrease in the crimes has been attributed to Intensive mass patrolling and other crime preventive measures put in place by the police.
They said, for burglary and auto-stripping, creating awareness among the residents and vehicle owners have been the most effective.
Every year, police personnel go door-to-door, creating awareness. They are carrying out similar activity, this year as well.
Apart from sharing safety tips, they also distribute information pamphlets.
The introduction of programmes like Community Police and Friends of Police have also contributed in prevention of crimes, say the police officials.
